29.01.2025. General Secretary Bratislav Pejaković, MSc, UBCG, with the support of the President of the Board for Card Services at UBCG, Aleksandar Pajević, had a meeting with representatives of the World Bank. The World Bank, in cooperation with the CBCG, is conducting an assessment of the acceptance of electronic payments (EPA – Electronic Payment Acceptance) in Montenegro, which will include a detailed analysis of the current state of electronic payments and provide recommendations for activities that would improve the acceptance and use of electronic payments in the country.
The subject of the UBCG meeting with representatives of the World Bank mission, which consists of Mrs. Oya Ardic Alper, Mr. Peter Moeller Jensen and Mrs. Drilona Emrullahu, is collection data on the EPA ecosystem from the perspective of retailers, consumers and financial service providers.
Views and opinions were exchanged on key trends and challenges in the development of digital payments, especially in the context of their availability, efficiency and security. The importance of education, cooperation of institutions, specific projects and activities of UBCG against this background of digital transformation of the payment system was highlighted as a key factor for increasing the competitiveness of the Montenegrin economy and accelerating its development. Based on the collected data and analysis, the SB will prepare recommendations for the improvement of electronic payments in Montenegro.
The goal is to create additional opportunities for the development of digital services, encourage wider application electronic payments and increase the competitiveness of the Montenegrin financial sector. The initial step is to assess the situation in the field of electronic payments in Montenegro, with a focus on the level of acceptance and use of these services. As part of this mission, in addition to the UBCG, the SB team will hold a series of meetings with representatives of the CBCG, the Ministry of Finance, the Chamber of Commerce, the Central Register of Business Entities (CRPS), payment institutions and commercial banks.
