63RD MEETING OF EBF ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

Today 17.10 2025 – The 63rd meeting of EBF affiliated members was held in Tirana, organized by the Association of Banks of Albania and EBF. The opening speech was given by Maria Abascal, President of the EBF Executive Committee, where she pointed out the trends in the banking sector. The topics that emerged through the presentations of EBF representatives are:
– Stable coin, digital euro, Basel principles and DORA, SEPA and trends in EU payments
– Pointing out the increased dangers of fraudulent activities while emphasizing the need to constantly strengthen trust in banking.
– The process by which the EBF indicated to the European Central Bank that it is time to rethink the relaxation of the existing regulation, simplifying the approach to bank operations, as well as indicating the need for vanilla securitization, or a vanilla strategy that implies a simple and clear strategy while focusing business lines on areas where there is a clear competitive advantage. A simple strategy must allow for innovation, as competitive advantage can erode over time for many products and services. The previous one is related to the over-regulation of bank operations in Europe and thus through capital burdens and liquidity needs more than e.g. in the USA, losing the competitiveness of European banks globally.
